If you are considering a unique learning experience in the Fashion industry, then Italy is the place for you. It is home to the most famous fashion and design brands, from century-old family generations excelling in shoemaking and leatherwork, to the modern-day fashion icons of Ferragamo and Gucci, just to name a few. Italy also hosts amazing events related to the world of fashion. Examples include MIFUR (International Leather & Furs Exhibition), Milano Unica (International Italian Top-end Textile Fair), and the shows of Pitti Immagine in Florence and Milan Fashion Week.
Whether you want to study fashion with a short summer course or earn a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, in Italy you will find the ideal solution for you. Studiainitalia is the official agent for two prestigious academies specialized in fashion and design courses: NABA and Domus Academy, both considered among the 60 best fashion schools in the world! We also collaborate with local artisans that provide professional courses in their typical “bottega” (workshop).
Short Summer Fashion Courses
In Summer 2019, NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) will offer two-week intensive programs in the fields of Fashion, Design and Multimedia Arts. You can choose between Milan and Rome, or combine them with the “Dual City” program.
Some of the summer fashion courses in Rome include Costume Design, Fashion Marketing & Communication, and Fashion Image & Styling.
The summer fashion programs in Milan include Fashion Design, Accessories Design, Textile Design and Visual Merchandising.
Guided by skilled Italian and international professionals, you will explore trends in fashion and design, and learn how to research and present a creative idea.
Academic Degrees in Fashion
NABA also offers Bachelor and Master courses in Milan, specifically the BA in Fashion Design and the MA in Fashion and Textile Design. Thanks to NABA’s close connections within the fashion industry, you’ll have the chance to participate in collaborative projects with companies.
Domus Academy was founded by the distinguished fashion designer Gianfranco Ferré. It offers Master degrees in Fashion Design, Fashion Management, and Fashion Styling & Visual Merchandising. Here too, during your workshops and internship, you’ll have the chance to collaborate on projects with top fashion studios and companies.
Artisanal Courses with Italian fashion artists
Florence has a long tradition as far as fashion is concerned. According to visittuscany.com (the region’s official tourism website), Italy’s haute couture was born in Florence at a parade organised in 1951 by the pioneer of Italian fashion Giovanni Battista Giorgini. On that occasion, many international buyers were present, and they discovered the elegance of Made in Italy.
The city has the only museum in Italy dedicated to fashion and its history: it is the Galleria del Costume with a collection of more than 6,000 artefacts! Florence is also home to the Salvatore Ferragamo museum and the Gucci museum, and hosts the prestigious, annual Pitti Immagine fashion events.
What fashion courses can you study in Florence? The best, most authentic way of learning about the “made in Italy” is to get busy with a practical, hands-on course that takes place in the bottega artigianale (artisan’s workshop).
If you love sewing, for example, you can sign up for a Creative Sewing Course or for an Advanced Sewing Workshop. These dressmaking courses are aimed at those who want to learn cutting and sewing techniques and want to increase their skills on a practical level.
We all know the importance of visual merchandising and display, so how about a Window Dressing Course in Florence? There is a lot of history, science and experience behind how to design the perfect shop window, how to work with lighting, and how to learn the techniques, modelling and technology of the materials.
