Bergamo Brescia Italian Capital of Culture 2023
The neighbouring cities of Bergamo and Brescia unite as a single entity to promote their territory’s hidden gems as the Italian Capital of Culture in 2023. Many events revolving around cultural and archaeological treasures, natural wonders, and innovative projects for a sustainable future will occur throughout the year. Painting Exhibitions in Italy
Among the beautiful painting exhibitions that started in 2022 and continue into the new year are:
- “Antonio Ligabue. L’ora senz’ombra” in Modena, visibile until 5 February at Galleria BPER Banca.
- “I pittori di Pompei” in Bologna, visible until 19 March at Museo Civico Archeologico.
- Vincent Van Gogh’s Exhibit in Rome, visible until 26 March at Palazzo Bonaparte.
The newly refurbished Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria pays tribute to Il Perugino for his birth 500 years ago. The exhibit, “Il meglio maestro d’Italia“, takes place from 4 March to 11 June 2023 in Perugia.
Milan’s MUDEC (Museum of Cultures) awaits you between 22 March and 30 July with a unique surrealist art collection in collaboration with the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam. The exhibition is a journey through 180 artworks that analyze the complex relationship between Surrealism and non-Western cultures.
Craft and Contemporary Art Fairs in Italy
Florence is home to MIDA, the International Handicraft Exhibition, from 25 April to 1 May 2023 at Fortezza da Basso. It took off in 1931 as the first craft fair in Italy, and still today, it’s an important event for the handmade sector.Milan is Italy’s capital of contemporary art. It hosts Miart from 14 to 16 February and two other prestigious events – Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone – from 18 to 23 April. Head to Verona from 13 to 15 October for ArtVerona, especially if you want to explore emerging Italian art.
Music, Poetry and Literature Events in Italy
Verona is also the place for opera lovers: from 16 June until 9 September 2023, it proposes an extraordinary calendar to celebrate the 100th Arena Opera Festival! It will present 50 of the most successful works performed in the theatre since its beginnings in 1913.Poetry lovers have time until 12 March to check out the exhibition that celebrates 100 years since the birth of Pier Paolo Pasolini. It takes place in Rome between the Barberini Corsini Galleries, the MAXXI Museum and the Palazzo Delle Esposizioni.Spring is excellent for literary events, starting from the Salone Del Libro di Napoli from 13 to 16 April, and following with the year’s most important event of the kind, the 35th edition of the Salone Internazionale del Libro in Turin from 18 to 22 May 2023.
