The narrow streets, ancient buildings, and historical monuments reflect a past that dates back to the Middle Ages.

This historical dimension enriches the experience for students, as they are immersed in a living history that speaks to the heart of Italian tradition.

The availability of essential amenities, cultural venues, and recreational facilities ensures a well-rounded experience. Proximity to historical sites allows for easy exploration during free time.

Advantages of studying Italian in Siena

The “Purest” Italian Dialect: Unlike other regions where local dialects can be confusing for beginners, Sienese Italian is renowned for being clear and grammatically close to the standard Italian taught in textbooks. This makes it much easier to practice what you learn in class with locals.

Authentic Language Immersion: Siena is a “human-scale” city. Because it is smaller and less overwhelmed by mass tourism than Rome or Florence, locals are more likely to speak to you in Italian rather than switching immediately to English.

Walkability and Safety: The historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage site and largely pedestrianized. You can walk to your language school, the supermarket, and the local cafes within 15–20 minutes, making it one of the safest and most convenient cities for international students.

A Vibrant Student Atmosphere: Home to the University of Siena (one of the oldest in the world) and the University for Foreigners of Siena, the city has a high student-to-resident ratio. This ensures a lively social scene with plenty of student-priced aperitivos and events.

Cultural activities and life in Siena

Social Activities Organized by the School that allow students to build connections and practice their skills in informal settings.

Guided Tours and Excursions

Students have the opportunity to explore Siena and its surroundings through guided tours. These excursions often focus on the city’s iconic landmarks, rich history, and hidden gems.

Cooking Workshops and Language Practice

Cooking workshops offer a unique way to learn Italian while delving into the country’s renowned culinary traditions. Participants can hone their language skills by following recipes in Italian. This interactive learning approach makes for a delicious and memorable educational experience.

Siena’s University Influence on Student Life

Siena is home to one of the oldest universities in Italy, which significantly contributes to the city’s youthful and dynamic environment. The presence of international students fosters cultural exchange, as diverse groups gather to learn, socialize, and share experiences. Academic life is intertwined with cultural activities, allowing students to engage in discussions about art, history, and Italian customs. The university influence adds vibrancy to Siena, making it not only a place for language education but also a lively community that welcomes newcomers and nourishes lifelong friendships.

Learn Italian in Siena, a Medieval City Rich in Culture

Siena is a stunning medieval city that captivates visitors with its rich history culture.
