Professional Pottery Course: Elevating Your Artistic Skills in Contemporary Ceramics and Design
Join Niccolò Poggi, an award-winning Florence-based designer and the grandson of Ugo Poggi, founder of a prestigious furniture factory, in an intensive course where classic elements of pottery craft meet digital design.
Niccolò Poggi is the grandson of Ugo Poggi, founder of the furniture factory Ugo Poggi in Florence in 1900.
Niccolò Poggi is now an award-winning, Florence-based designer. His mission is to design products for international brands, which inspired him to create and produce his own designs.
Learn how to model clay with your own hands and to move the wheel, discover and practice sculpting techniques on figurative and abstract forms, and enrich this with a deep understanding on 3D basic and advanced shapes. With a duration of 10 or 20 weeks, our intensive courses will boost your Art education in contemporary Ceramics and pottery making and design.
This course consists of 2 modules
In the 10-week basic module you will learn the fundamental pottery and glazing techniques while having an introduction to 3D Design (Rhinoceros suite).
By completing the 20-week programme, you will reach a professional level, acquiring advanced Ceramic and Design skills, as well as an essential managerial and entrepreneurial expertise.
The 10-week programme includes training in:
- Basic 3D Design shapes
- Wheel-thrown, hand-built Pottery
- Glazing, embossing, decoration
- Basic firing notions
The 20 week programme includes:
- Â Basic 3D Design shapes
- Â Wheel-thrown, hand-built Pottery
- Â Glazing, embossing, decoration
- Â Basic firing notions
- Â 3D Advanced shapes
- Â Casting techniques
- Â Mold
- Â Sculpting on figurative and abstract forms
- Â Marketing, Business lectures
- Â Design, Branding elements
- Â Final Project
These pottery courses will encourage you to think and to develop the essential elements of your own design identity.
You will be able to conceive, design and create your own capsule collection, starting to define your personal aesthetic vision while commencing to think about potential brand-building strategies.
The skills and vision developed during the pottery course provide students with an opportunity to start or to enrich a professional career in the fields of Ceramic Crafts and Design as:

No previous experience is needed
ENROLL ONE OF OUR COURSES
Before you enroll, a personal interview with the school’s staff will be arranged, which will help us verify your language skills and motivations.
PARTICIPANTS
There is a maximum of 12 students. There are no previous requisites. When we handle your application, we will pay special attention to your motivation and your personal vision.
REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma; high-intermediate (B2) level of English or Italian language (enough to understand and to participate in lessons); 18 years of age at the time of application.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is compulsory. Classes and workshops are held from Monday to Friday, from 9:30am to 5:30pm.
STARTING DATES
Our training programmes starts twice a year: beginning of February and beginning of September.
HOUSING
The school provides students with information and support help you find accommodation during for the duration of your course. Living expenses are not included in the tuition fee.
