Basic artisan jewellery course in Florence

This is a professional, long-term jewellery course (108 hours in 12 weeks) that provides the basic knowledge of handcrafted jewellery using ancient goldsmith techniques. This is a one-to-one course, where each trainee is personally followed by the master-craftsman in order to acquire skills through the creation of a jewell, realized in silver and entirely by hand. Courses start every Monday (except during August), course materials are included. The programme includes, among others, the following sections:

  • Introduction to ancient tools and materials
  • Metal melting and creation of alloys, metal sheets and wires
  • Metal forging and modelling
  • Welding techniques with gas flame and microflame
  • Realization of simple artisan handcrafted chains
  • Metal clipping and contouring techniques by piercing saw
  • Artisan handcrafted hook closures
  • Stone setting and mounting
  • Realization of a ring, earrings and bracelet

Our master craftsman uses ancient and historical goldsmith techniques. Students are welcome into his wonderful, contemporary and new exhibition/work space, to learn the ancient skills of goldsmithery. This is a unique opportunity for students to experience these ancient jewellery techniques.

During the courses, students will have the opportunity to live and to learn this unique approach to jewellery. This is a one-to-one course, where the artisan works with one student at a time to completely focus on their individual development and learning; this course can be taught either in Italian or in English.

The school will be closed on the following national holidays: Epiphany (06/01), Easter Monday, Italy Liberation Day (25/04), Workers' Day (01/05), Republic Day (02/06), Ferragosto (15/08), All Saints (01/11), Immaculate Conception (8/12), Christmas holidays and New Year.
