Learn Womenswear Pattern Making Through Practice
Throughout the course, you will work directly with patterns, fabrics, sewing machines and garments. Practical workshop sessions allow you to understand how a garment is developed from an initial idea to a finished piece.
From Traditional Techniques to Contemporary Fashion
The course introduces you to the foundations of traditional tailoring and pattern making, while exploring how these techniques can be applied to contemporary womenswear.
You will learn how to work with traditional methods and reinterpret them through new shapes, proportions, materials and construction techniques.
The result is a practical approach to fashion that connects craft, technical knowledge and contemporary design.
Pattern Making, Fit and Garment Construction
A key part of the course is learning how to develop and adapt patterns for womenswear.
You will explore:
- Flat pattern making
- Pattern development from scratch
- Pattern cutting and pattern manipulation
- Garment construction
- Sewing techniques
- Fit and proportions
- Garment volume and structure
- Fabric and textile behaviour
- Tailoring techniques
- Technical problem-solving
Fashion Design Through Making
Instead of treating design and construction as separate stages, students use patterns, fabrics, volumes and construction methods as part of the creative process.
A change in a pattern line can transform the shape of a garment. A different fabric can change its volume and movement. A construction decision can become an important part of the design.
Sustainable Fashion and Responsible Making
Sustainability is integrated into the practical work of the course.
The course encourages a more conscious approach to womenswear design, where technical decisions and material choices are considered from the beginning.
Sewing and Pattern Making for Beginners
No previous professional experience is required.
The course includes an introductory sewing component for students with no previous sewing experience, providing the basic skills needed to participate in the workshop and develop garments.
What Will You Learn?
By the end of the course, you will have developed practical knowledge of:
- Womenswear pattern making
- Fashion pattern cutting
- Flat pattern development
- Garment construction
- Sewing techniques
- Fit and garment proportions
