Enamelling is an old technique applied to part of metal surfaces. It was made with materials similar to glass but usually coloured. The various colours of the dyes were obtained from the various compositions of metal oxides.

Nowadays we apply enamel to highlight a special feature on gold and silver items.

You will learn how to prepare the powders, to pickle the metal surfaces to be enamelled, and apply the powders to the surfaces.

Then you will fire the items in the kiln to melt and then solidify the enamel. After this process you will finish the enamelled parts with abrasive agents and hydrofluoric acid.

The following techniques used for the hot enamelling are: cloisonné, champlevé, cathedral e miniature.

Our enamelling course lasts 12 weeks (9 hours per week).

The programme also includes different kinds of enamel and their classification.

Enamelling course

Our course is offered by our jewellery school in Florence. The school is located in the historic city centre, in the neighborhood of Santo Spirito.

It is housed in a old palace with equipped workshop containing individual workbenches, tools and equipments.

You can combine this enamelling course with other specializations as stone setting courses, engraving or lost wax courses.
