Peggy Guggenheim Collection, 9 April – 26 September 2022This exhibition in the Peggy Guggenheim Collection explores how magic shaped the development of Surrealism. Among the many artists included in the exhibit are Victor Brauner, Leonora Carrington, Salvador Dalí, Paul Delvaux, René Magritte, and Remedios Varo. 

Venice – 59th International Art Exhibition

Biennale di Venezia, 23 April – 27 November 2022The Biennale’s Art Exhibition will be titled The Milk of Dreams. This name is borrowed from a book by Leonora Carrington. As curator Cecilia Alemani explains: “The exhibition takes us on an imaginary journey through metamorphoses of the body and definitions of humanity”. 

Turin Art and ecology from poor art to today

OGR, 28 April – 25 September 2022OGR Torino, the majestic late 19th century industrial complex in Turin, hosts an exhibition that focuses on the history of poor art and the emergence of ecological themes in art from the 1960s to today. 

Florence – 32nd International Antiques Fair

Palazzo Corsini, 24 September – 2 October 2022The ‘Biennale Internazionale dell’Antiquariato di Firenze’ promotes the finest works of art in Italy. In addition to the exhibition held in Palazzo Corsini, the Biennale also offers a rich cultural programme and satellite events across Florence. 

Florence – Donatello, The Renaissance

Palazzo Strozzi and Musei del Bargello, 19 March – 31 July 2022Palazzo Strozzi and Musei del Bargello will host a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition that sets out to reconstruct the outstanding career of Donatello. His works will be juxtaposed with masterpieces by other Italian Renaissance masters such as Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Raphael and exhibitions in italy 2022 

Modena – Umberto Tirelli. Caricatures for a theater of life

Museo Civico, 18 December – 25 April 2022This exhibition celebrates Umberto Tirelli, one of the caricature masters of the early twentieth century, 150 years after his birth in Modena. Hosted in the Museo Civico, it features 230 works, including drawings, sculptures, paintings, masks and puppets. 

Rome – Caravaggio and Artemisia: The Challenge of Judith

Palazzo Barberini, 26 November 2021 – 27 March 2022The exhibition celebrates 70 years since discovering Caravaggio’s famous painting and 50 years since its acquisition by the Italian State. The artwork of ‘Giuditta beheading Holofernes’ by Caravaggio is kept in Palazzo Barberini. It will be joined by a series of masterpieces from all over the world, including the beautiful Judith and Holofernes by Artemisia Gentileschi. 

Rome – Klimt. The Secession and Italy

Palazzo Braschi, 27 October 2021 – 27 March 2022Gustav Klimt returns to Italy, in Palazzo Braschi, one hundred ten years after taking part in the 1911 International Art Exhibition. This exhibition marks the return to Italy of some of his masterpieces from the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, the Klimt Foundation and public and private collections. 

Naples – Sing Sing. The Body of Pompeii

MANN, 21 January – 30 June 2022 The Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli will display the black and white photographs by Luigi Spina. These reveal to the public the everyday objects of Pompeii and Herculaneum that survived the eruption of the Vesuvius, objects that were kept in the museum’s deposits.
